Tenerife is an island with a multiplicity of ecosystems and a whole range of activities that span age brackets and personal interests. Here are some hints as to how to spend your time if you wish to extend your stay before or after the conference.
- The top island attraction is arguably the Teide volcano and its environs, the Teide National Park. At 3718 m, Mount Teide is the tallest peak in Spain. The National Park itself and the surrounding forests provide many unique trekking options (just take precautions for the sun and heat if you trek in the National Park).
- The Masca mountain range is also a popular trekking area.

- If travelling with young children, Loro Parque is a renowned zoo-turned-theme-park located not far away from the conference site.
- La Laguna (about 30 min by car from the hotel) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a tranquil, largely pedestrian town center packed with century-old palaces and houses.

- Garachico, about 30 min to the West of the hotel, is a quiet sea-side village with an interesting collection of Canarian-style houses.
- On your way to Garachico you may want to stop at Icod de Los Vinos, a village well known on account of the local wines, and the site of the Millenary Drago, an iconic drago tree on the island of a very old (if not quite millenary) age.
- If seeking to relax, the south of the island is a well know touristic destination, with guaranteed (well, almost) sunshine and large, well-equipped beaches.

- For those with more time to spare, the island of La Gomera is a ferry-crossing away from the South of Tenerife (3 crossings per day, 60 min sailing time). La Gomera offers endless opportunities for trekking among the rapidly-changing landscape. Among the breathtaking scenary, the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands out; it includes a large extension of ‘laurisilva’, the humid subtropical forest that in the Tertiary covered almost all of Europe.

- The other islands in the archipelago (La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, El Hierro, Gran Canaria) are further away, but each has its personality and unique attractions.
