Venue and travel

Venue

The conference will take place at the Semiramis Hotel (see pictures), on the Spanish island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). The hotel is located in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, on the seafront. Accommodation and registration will be handled by the Conference Travel Agent, VIACONTE; see Registration for details.

Answers to some FAQ on the hotel are available here.

Puerto de la Cruz is Tenerife’s main destination in the North of the island; and, although it welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, it remains resolutely Canarian in character.

Puerto de la Cruz has a reputation as a sophisticated holiday destination and its many fine restaurants, its stylish garden beach, its elegant plazas and streets and its upmarket shopping make it a favourite with both mainland Spaniards and visitors from all over Europe.

Travel

The island of Tenerife has two international airports:

  • Tenerife Norte (Los Rodeos) (TFN) is the one closest to the venue (26 km). It is served by frequent flights from many Spanish-mainland cities, and also with some international ones.
  • Tenerife Sur (Reina Sofía) (TFS) is a larger one, and has frequent connections (including low cost airlines) to mainland Spain and to many European cities. It is located 100 km (approx 1h30m) from the venue.

How to get to the hotel

By bus

TITSA is the island-wide bus company, and runs regular buses from either airport. Get off at the stop named “SUPER 2000”. This is about 300m from the hotel; an approximate map of the route from the SUPER 2000 bus stop to the hotel is available here. A pic of the bus stop is here .

  • From TFN, you can take line 102 (services every 30 min), or lines 343/340 (less frequent services, but faster).
  • From TFS, take lines 343/340

For further information, visit the TITSA website (with up-to-date timetables), or download their leaflet (2.3 Mb, in Spanish).

By taxi

  • From TFN: A taxi ride takes about 20 min, and the cost is about 30 euro.
  • From TFS: The taxi ride is about 1h30m, and the cost about 90 euro.

By car

Car rental on the island is relatively inexpensive, and may be the best way to move around if your plans are to engage in some sightseeing before or after the Conference. From TFN there is a motorway to Puerto de la Cruz. From TFS we suggest you take the motorway (anticlockwise around the island). The clockwise connection is shorter (85 km), but it uses secondary roads and it usually takes a bit longer.

If arriving by car, the last few kilometers (once you get off the motorway) are somewhat tricky (but the hotel is sufficiently signposted); if you do not have a GPS, it is a good idea to check on a map before you set out
